Interlude

Interlude – A Search for Terrestrial Intelligence (2024) by Peder Bjurman & Jin Mustafa (SE)

A series of powerful lights aimed at the night sky creates a vertical and dizzying axis towards space and towards the big questions. The audience actively participates in the piece by stepping onto a plate that controls the sound and light impulses and they thus become part of the communication. But the question of intelligent life in space is also asked of ourselves and thus turned upside down. Are there conditions for intelligent life down here as well? Or are there other ways to communicate with each other? Diagonal, horizontal, languageless and across great distances? Interlude is a space fairy tale and a melancholic piece of music in one, a hybrid that creates an alien language. That everyone speaks. A cross between science fiction and nature poetry, where Tarkovsky’s film Solaris meets the whisper of a pine forest.

The work is shown outdoors in open spaces, parks and gardens, preferably round venues. Aliens, welcome!

The internationally renowned artist and writer Peder Bjurman has previously created several large installations for public spaces, including the video work The Air Loom with Blixa Bargeld and Mark Holthusen in 2022, the AR work SLOW WALKER and the facade projection All Eyes in 2023. He is now returning together with the composer Jin Mustafa with a large light and sound installation that was first shown in Uppsala Sweden at the art museums courtyard.
